Be Confident!

Your audience wants someone who is confident in what they're talking about and knows what they are doing. By showing your confidence, they can trust you as a presenter more. It is also important that you deliver your piece properly. Don't bore them to death. They would listen to you more often if you believe in yourself and you show it. Aside from mentally preparing yourself, don't forget to practice in front of the mirror.

Practice makes perfect

Practice is KEY. Even if you don't have a presentation to work on, you can still improve and perfect your skills by volunteering your services to a civic group of your choice. Doing this will allow you to break out of your shell if you are shy, or will simply allow you to improve your skills more. There are many groups and agencies that need people to speak for their cause. By volunteering some of your time for these kind of tasks, you would be able to help the community while you are practicing on your presentation skills.
